Princeton TX Cares - APS

🛑🚨🛑If you haven't already signed the petition, please stop by today to do so! We will be at Smith Elementary at 2101 Forest Meadow Dr from 9:00A to 3:00PM. ðŸ›‘🚨🛑
We need to get a MINIMUM of 406 VALID signatures on the petition. To be valid, the signer must be registered to vote in the city of Princeton at the time of their signature. (Unfortunately, those that live in the ETJ do not qualify). We are shooting for 600 signatures to be on the safe side and cover us for any accidental invalid signatures. As of 6/29, we are about half way there.
If we obtain enough signatures, the petition will be checked by the City Secretary and sent off to the Secretary of the State for final verification. Once verified, they will put it up to vote on the November ballot, where everyone can vote whether they are for or against it.
If the law passes, then larger restaurants will begin making plans to build. Realistically, we are looking at about 2 years out. June - Nov is 5 months, then it will take 10-18 months for construction from contract to grand opening. It isn't a quick process, but the longer we take to pass the law the less chance we have of getting retail and restaurants worth having.
Passing a law to allow on premise consumption of mixed beverages will bring in more reliable, higher quality restaurants. Which in turn will bring in things like Grocers, Home Improvements, Clothing/Shopping Retailers, Entertainment options like Movie Theatre or Bowling Alley, etc. Retail and Alcohol sales will increase tax revenues for the City without adding much of an additional financial burden. This will allow the city additional funds for things like increased Emergency Response forces (Police, Fire, EMS), road repairs, Park and public facility upkeep etc. We as residents already spend our money on things like eating out, shopping and entertainment, but we do that in other cities giving them our tax dollars. If we are able to refocus that spending to our town, we'll benefit from it in other ways than just the immediate service/items we're paying for.
Remember:
1. In order to sign the petition, you must be a registered voter, with your registration showing a City of Princeton address (ETJ residents unfortunately do not count)
2. This petition is only saying we want it on the ballot for vote in November. Signing the petition does not mean you do or don't support the effort. So, make sure to show up to the polls in November!
3. This is for sales of mixed beverage for on premise consumption Only! This will not allow liquor stores.
